This wetland area is home to sitatunga and red lechwe antelopes, as well as lion, leopard, wildebeest, elephant, zebra and many more. Birdlife such as fish eagle, wattled crane, saddle billed stork, egret and African skimmer can also be found in the Jao Reserve.
The area is home to Botswana's largest concentration of buffalo. As many African's know, where there's buffalo there is certain to be lions not far behind. The Kaparota Lagoon is spectacular at sunset, when herd after herd of elephant come to drink, moving their feet to create waves that keep crocodiles at bay.
