The day trip to Moremi is the quickest way to catch a glimpse of what this remarkable reserve has to offer when you do not have enough time to spend the night. Departing from Maun early in the morning, you will be picked up from your place of accommodation in Maun before heading to Moremi Game Reserve to explore the diversity of this scenic and wildlife-rich area. This tour commences and ends in Maun
Moremi Game Reserve is about 100 kilometers from Maun, and you can expect to spend the day searching for the wide variety of wildlife and birdlife that this area is renowned for, while absorbing the sounds and beauty of this area.
Often described as the most beautiful of all wildlife sanctuaries in Africa, Moremi Game Reserve covers almost a third of the entire Okavango Delta. Explore the diverse habitats where desert and delta support floodplains, pans, lagoons, channels, woodlands and forests, each offering unparalleled excitement and adventure.
This safari is undertaken in customized safari vehicles with rear mounted game viewing seats underneath a canvas canopy. You will be accompanied at all times by knowledgeable and experienced guides.
Warm clothes are necessary during winter months and rain gear during the rainy season.
From mid-May to mid-August we depart from Maun at 5:30am and return at 6:30pm. The rest of the year the trip starts at 6:00am and we return at 7:00pm. The game drive technically starts once we have passed the Buffalo fence, an hour drive from Maun.
You will be provided with a packed breakfast, tea and coffee for a light breakfast stop when you reach Maqwee (South Gate) - the southern entrance to Moremi Game Reserve, after which we will proceed to Black Pools and Xini Area. These areas are in the south western part of Moremi. With seasonal and permanent swamp landscape, these two areas are home to a bounty of buffalo herds, elephant, cheetah, African wild dog and good lion prides, to name a few. You will also have a packed lunch at around 1pm at a picnic spot chosen by your Guide. Bottled water and soft drinks are also provided, and a cooler box with ice for any extra drinks you may wish to bring.
Moremi Game Reserve is home to a range of habitats that will take you on a journey across landscapes, to wetlands. This diversity of ecosystems brings an amazing array of wildlife sightings, birding and natural beauty. The wildlife highlights differ from day-to-day and amongst such are leopard, lion, African wild dog, hyena, kudu, waterbuck, giraffe, zebra, elephant, buffalo, rhino and impala – to name a few. Birdlife is quite amazing in the area with birds such as secretary bird, hornbill, lapwing, vulture, African jacana, African fish eagle, hamerkop, kori bastard, lilac breasted roller, and crested crane amongst many other species. Your professional guide, using his knowledge and experience of the area will ensure that you enjoy the very best of what Moremi has to offer.
